  • Faithful to Mignola’s vision

This movie was great fun! All of the negative reviews I am seeing are from people who loved The Del Toro films and Ron Pearlman as Hellboy...and expected more of the same. I just rewatched Hellboy and Golden Army, and while they were (and are still) great, This film was different enough from Del Toro’s treatment to cause people to lose their $#!%. Anyone familiar with Mike Mignola’s comics will appreciate this version despite it’s flaws. You have to remember the 2004 Hellboy was done on a 66 million $ budget, the 2019 Hellboy team had 50 million...adjusted for inflation, that’s substantially less...yet the love the creators had for Hellboy shows in how much of Mignola’s material they tried to faithfully squeeze into this film. They went bold and big and stretched that budget to its very limit, and some of the CGI is a bit rough around the edges. But the practical effects were great, and David Harbour does Mignola’s version of Hellboy better than Ron Perlman did. There. I said it. I love Ron Perlman, and he fits Del Toro’s films fantastically. But Harbour’s performance truly shines, even while his makeup/prosthetics seem to try to thwart him. Plot and pacing was fast and furious, so I would be surprised if there isnt a directors cut of this film with extended and cut scenes added back in. If you are a fan of The Hellboy comics, you have to see this. If your only exposure to Hellboy has been Ron Perlman’s rendition, then keep an open mind and remember this isn’t a sequel, or even the same style of film. It’s gritty, and dark, and at times gratuitously violent and bloody, just like it should be. Normally I would give this 4 stars, but I need to make up for some of the haters that have given it just 1, simply because it wasn’t the Del Toro film they wanted or for some reason expected.
  • Y’all need to chill tf out

So who cares if it’s a remake they just made an old great movie into a new hd movie so who tf cares honestly you guys expect a hit to be good in the second movie but it was not that good then you expect it to be good in the third one what kind of fu##### logic is that.
  • Insulting.

Hate how in one scene his rock hand is on his right, then goes to his left, then back on the right arm. Sloppy/horrific.
