Tony Lip, a bouncer in 1962, is hired to drive pianist Don Shirley on a tour through the Deep South in the days when African Americans forced to find alternate accommodations and services due to segregation laws below the Mason-Dixon Line relied on a guide called The Negro Motorist Green Book.
I saw some reviews that make this out to be a bad, inaccurate movie. You should watch this movie for the characters and the story it tells. This is a story of an Extremely Talented black man and his uneducated white driver. It is based on a time when racism ran wild in the South. The chemistry between these two actors is incredible, and the film is well shot. Whether it is factually correct or not is irrelevant. It is a great, feel good movie...Period!
Great Film But ...
This was a very well put together film, all the acting was very impressive (although the lead role was a little 2D for a lead role). However the whole thing ends up being a little white
savior-ish. Ali’s character gets into many issues but there isn’t a single time he gets out of it himself, it’s always a white man who helps save him.
